From July 13–17, 2026, the first EU-CORE Summer School took place in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in the beautiful setting of the University of Zagreb, Centre for Advanced Academic Studies.

The Summer School provided a great opportunity to bring students, professors, and industry professionals together in a more relaxed and informal setting, fostering exchange, discussion, and new connections, as well as future opportunities.

The Summer School brought together students, invited professors, and industry experts from our associate partners, including the University of Colorado Boulder (United States), Tohoku University (Japan), Rimac Technology, TotalEnergies, and others.

The programme included the following presentations:

  •  Prof. Akihiro HAYAKAWA (Tohoku University) - Combustion and fuel-ammonia, fundamentals
  • Hrojve NOVAK (UNIZG) - Data-driven Forecasting for Sustainable Energy Systems: A Practitioner's Perspective
  • Prof. Mario VASAK (UNIZG) - Optimization and Computational Geometry Relied on Sequential Linearization -- Applications in Sustainable Battery Systems and Water Distribution
  • Ninoslav CERKEZ (RIMAC TECHNOLOGY) - Machine Learning for Battery Cell Aging
  • Xavier MORISE (TOTAL Energies) - How TotalEnergies Actually Navigates the Energy Transition
  • Prof. Uwe RIEDEL (DLR) - Core Technological Levers for Industrial Decarbonization
  • Prof. Lucy PAO (University of Colorado Boulder) - Sink or Swim: Modeling and Control of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines

The Summer School also marked the end of the students’ second semester. They had the opportunity to present the projects they had worked on throughout the semester to their classmates, professors, and industry professionals attending the event.
Participants also enjoyed a guided tour of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, discovering more about the city’s history.

A big thank you to all the participants who contributed to making this first edition a great experience!
